Restaurant Lorbeer, Pappelallee 77, 10437 Berlin, Germany

Berlin's frosty, endless winter days let you dream of goulash, red wine and dark buttery sauces. Luckily more and more places now serve modern German cuisine using excellent regional products - one of them is Restaurant Lorbeer.

As a starter we ordered mould cheese on beetroot salad with apples and walnuts (4,90 EUR).

We went on with super tender ragout made of venison with spaetzle and Brussels sprouts (15,90) and a juicy Wiener Schnitzel (veal) on luke warm potato salad (12,90 EUR).

And just couldn't leave without trying the mouth-watering Kaiserschmarrn topped by cherry puree and vanilla ice-cream (7,90 EUR).

van Loon, Carl-Herz-Ufer 5, 10961 Berlin, Germany

Spending an afternoon on this ship is pure recreation. Floating restaurant van Loon has a team of young and dedicated cooks and offers fresh fish for good value. The mixed salad topped by grilled Zander fillets is of high quality (15,90 EUR) and we just adore these subtle, little things like grilled sage leaves on top of salads.

The van Loon fish soup has a variety of fresh fish and crayfish and got this fruity and aromatic flavor we love from the Mediterranean kitchen and comes with roasted garlic bread (7,80 EUR).

Just go there and get your holiday moment in the middle of Berlin!
